SPLINT CARE INSTRUCTIONS

DO:
• Follow your doctor’s instructions
• Keep your splint clean and dry
• Inspect the skin condition around the splint area
• Use ice and elevate the splinted area

DO NOT:
• Get the splint wet; please cover the splint with a plastic bag to shower
• Insert objects inside the splint
• Use oils, oil-based lotions or powder near the splint
• Pull out, rearrange or add additional padding to the splint
• Break off, trim any splint edges or alter the splint
• Engage in vigorous activity involving the splinted area
• Sunburn the splinted area soon after the splint is removed

CONTACT THE DOCTOR IF:
• You have pain and swelling not improved by ice, elevation or pain medication
• You feel a blister or sore developing inside the splint
• You experience numbness or persistent tingling
• Your splint breaks, cracks, develops soft spots or gets wet
• You develop skin problems near the splint edges
